About Us

Our History

Tios Capital is a proprietary trading firm with offices in Birmingham, Alabama and Alexandria, Virginia. We bring a rigorous quantitative approach, supported by scalable technologies, to our investment decisions. Our current area of focus is wholesale power markets. Tios Capital began transacting in March of 2013 and is a registered market participant in CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, and PJM.

Our Approach

Our success requires specialized expertise in quantitative analytics, technology development, and a deep knowledge of market fundamentals. We are specialized, but we are not siloed. Our culture is marked by a collaborative approach that promotes cross-functional learning, cross-pollination of ideas, a service orientation, and working side by side to push projects forward. Trading

We develop a deep understanding of select wholesale power markets and take strategic positions. We work closely with the technology and quantitative teams to rapidly develop tools and systems to help us make the best decisions each day.

Tech

We leverage various data structures, algorithms, and cloud-based systems to deliver analytics quickly to our trading team. We live and breathe agile software development techniques to provide our trading team with new tools and enhancements on fast release cycles.

Quant

We build predictive models, optimization engines, and other quantitative tools to help our trading team make smart decisions. We collaborate with the technology team to quickly and cost-effectively analyze data on the cloud.

Our Leadership

Duncan Rein, co-founder

Duncan leads the trading team at our office in Birmingham, Alabama. Duncan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton University with a Bachelors of Science and Engineering in Chemical Engineering. After a successful start in management consulting, Duncan spent eight years helping churches and other Christian ministries broadcast their message over the Internet. As co-founder and CEO of LifeAudio.com, he led the company through the acquisition, turn around, and eventual sale of Lightsource.com and Christianity.com, while also building a web design and consulting firm known as Silas Partners. After selling Silas Partners, Duncan took a break from startups and worked for three years at an energy trading firm, where he learned the basics of wholesale power markets. After taking some time off, and unable to shake the entrepreneurial impulse, Duncan began to conceptualize Tios Capital and then joined with Brian to translate vision into reality.

Brian Fujito, co-founder

Brian leads the Technology and Quantitative teams at our Alexandria, Virginia office. Brian graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton University with a Bachelors of Science and Engineering in Computer Science. He launched into start-ups when Duncan brought him on as a software developer for LifeAudio.com. He grew to lead the company's technology efforts as CTO. Brian co-founded a non-profit organization to build businesses in frontier markets. He then returned to technology, serving as CTO of Razoo.com to transform their platform and team to support multi-million dollar community giving days. As their interim CEO he built out key marketing and business development initiatives, and transitioned the company to new leadership. At Tios, he built the initial systems and software application frameworks that we use for trading each day.
